Registration
  • Registration limited to the first 300 participants
  • Fee: $35 from 2/15-5/31; $45 from 6/1-7/16: $60 on Race Day
  • Register online at BikeReg 2010 registration opens Feb 15th
  • All participants will receive a free race t-shirt


  • Schedule & Details
  • Race day registration and number pick up opens at 7:45AM
  • Course is open to riders and cars driving to the finish from 7:45 - 9:15AM. The course will close to all traffic promptly at 9:15AM
  • Drop bags (with helmets, clothes, water bottles, etc) can be left at the registration table by 9:15AM to be transported to the finish line
  • Race starts at 9:30AM with waves (based on age category) going off in 3 min increments
  • No riders or vehicles will be allowed back down the course until the last rider has finished (approx 11:00AM)
  • Awards ceremony at the finish line (NOT at the bottom of the hill) after the last rider finishes. Refreshments and fruit will be provided at the finish
  • Racers should plan to bike back down the mountain (wearing a helmet) or else need to arrange their own rides down from the top of the mountain ($3 per vehicle to drive up). Car pooling is strongly encouraged!


  • Course Description
    Ascend 2300' in 3.7 miles on an entirely paved course. Average Grade 12%. Some sections in excess of 19%. Approximate 1:1 gear ratio is recommended. One water station will be available halfway through the course.Course available for inspection and test riding during park season ($3 day use fee applies).

    Helmets are not required for the race, but riders bicycling down the course after the race are required to wear a helmet and ride at their own risk. Use caution when descending. Stop frequently to let your brakes and rims cool. Letting a little air out if your tires before starting the ride down the mountain is recommended.

  • Medals for the following male & female age divisions: U19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+ plus categories for Clydesdale (Men 190lbs+), Filly (Women 140lbs+), and Tandem
  • For the Tandem class - only one rider needs to register per team
  • Ready for the Ascutney Uphill Challenge? Sponsor Penguin Cycles is awarding cash prizes for the fastest combined times (male and female) for the Ascutney Bike Hill Climb (this race) and the Ascutney Mountain Run on July 11th. Just compete in both races to be eligible (no additional entry fee or registration). 2009 Results

  • This is race 4 of 9 in the BUMPS Northeast Hill Climb Championship Series
    Compete for the Northeast King or Queen of the Mountain title by earning points in your 5 best series races.

  • From I-91 (Exit 8): Go .2 miles E on Rt 131 to stop light, turn left on Rt 5 for 1.2 miles, then bear left on Rt 44A for 1 mile
  • Free parking is available in the field across from the state park (near the start)
  • Limited parking at the finish line (top of the mountain). $3.00 per vehicle to drive up the auto road. First come, first served
  • Mt. Ascutney State Park requires dogs to be on a leash and they must have a rabies tag
